Success Stories: Maria

Maria is from Jalisco, Mexico and has lived in the United States for 25 years.
She and her husband work fulltime, minimum wage jobs and are putting their young adult children through school. Her husband had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, (now, thankfully in remission) and hadn’t been able to work for a long while.

Maria was very hesitant when she came to the clinic. She was afraid of losing her teeth and worried about her lack of financial resources to pay for care.  She hadn’t seen a dentist in over 15 years. We found that she needed extensive work due to lack of oral hygiene, and possibly, faulty dental work that had been done in Mexico. She was suffering from severe bone loss and tooth decay.  We performed surgical extractions, deep cleaning, fitted a stayplate, and provided a lower partial denture and full upper denture.

In spite of her anxiety, the warm staff at Sonrisas was able to ease her fear throughout her many appointments, and she developed a “tia – sobrina” (aunt – niece) relationship with the wonderful dentist who treated her. She is now taking excellent care of her new smile.
