How do we measure success?

At Sonrisas, success means improving lives, one smile at a time, for low-income residents of San Mateo County. This requires improving Access To Care (ATC) through identifying those in need, as well as providing treatment to patients of all income levels and insurance status.

Our Vision

We identify children who are new to the dental care system and in need of treatment through our School Screenings.

We welcome new patients of all ages by providing the full range of dental treatment and education regardless of patient income.

We strive to establish a dental home for all Sonrisas Dental Health patients, seeing them at least twice per year.

Our vision of success means that patients with a dental home at Sonrisas move from restorative to preventative dental visits and are able to eat without pain, smile with pride, and enjoy oral health.

WE SERVE

Marginalized
Communities

Sonrisas Dental Health was founded to expand dental care to include the children of farmworkers on the Coast of San Mateo County. Over the years, Sonrisas has grown to serve low-income, marginalized individuals from throughout San Mateo County and across the age span through our Access to Care program.

SDH patients are racially and ethnically diverse, including individuals who self-identify as Latinx (30%), Caucasian (31%), Asian (28%), and African American (1%) with 10% unknown. Many patients primarily speak a language other than English. Our bilingual staff speaks Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, and Korean, so that we may more fully engage patients in their oral health care.
