Dentistry in a safe, calm, relaxed state.

Does the thought of visiting the dentist make you or a loved one anxious?  You're not alone.  In fact, 1 in 5 Americans avoid going to the dentist because of dental anxiety. Our team aims to make the patient experience as comfortable and pain-free as possible. IV Sedation also provides a safe environment for patients with special needs.   Our IV Sedation puts the patient in a deeply relaxed state so that they can receive treatment without being overwhelmed.  No one should have to suffer through a long procedure to enjoy a brighter smile - and good health.

IV Sedation has become revolutionary in improving  the ease of complex dental procedures.  Our board-certified anesthesiologist provides the sedation safely and effectively to establish a deeply relaxed state. Our anesthesiologist will remain throughout the entire procedure to monitor and maintain the patient.  Next our highly-trained dentists deliver state-of-the-art dental treatments.  We are the only licensed IV Sedation Center in the Peninsula that offers in-house dentists and specialists (periodontist, endodontist, anesthesiologist) - all in the same clinic, saving the patient time and money from having to go from office to office to get the consultations and examinations needed. Our clinic uses state-of-the-art technology to communicate, develop and render the best treatment possible - including 3D imaging, 3D printers, lasers, intraoral camera, handheld digital x-rays.

Sedation Dentistry is appropriate for a variety of different procedures. We advise you to speak with your dentist and request a consultation with our team to learn more.

Meet our team

Dr. Ricci Chan

General Dentist

Dr. Ricci Chan has dedicated his dental career - now celebrating 28 years - to improving the lives and smiles of his patients.  Dr. Chan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine with a DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) and completed his General Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco.  He is a Member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, San Mateo County Dental Society, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Chan's vision for I V Sedation has developed from his experience with caring for seniors, those with dental phobias, and patients with special needs.  He believes that with I V Sedation it is vitally important that management of the patient's safety and care is maintained in the most efficient and beneficial way possible. To meet this goal, a dedicated team approach is a must. Dr. Chan believes the general dentist needs to be responsible for coordinating the care to best meet the desires of the patient. This means using the medical and dental clinical diagnosis and findings to develop a dental treatment plan from the input of the medical physician and his team of dental specialists.

"I hope to treat each patient as if he or she was my own family member."

Dr. Chan is a passionate dog lover, participates in community volunteerism, and also enjoys running, health, and fitness.

Dr. Alex Targ

After earning a in Biophysics and Biochemistry from Stanford University, I completed both medical school and four years of additional specialized anesthesiology training at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF). This program is widely regarded as one of the top anesthesia training programs in the world. I have served on the UCSF and Stanford clinical faculty and published 19 scientific articles, abstracts, and book chapters. I have extensive experience in dental sedation and hold a Dental Board of California "General Anesthesia Permit."

I personally perform all aspects of the anesthetic, and your child will remain under my direct, constant supervision until discharged home. You rarely find a medical doctor like me sedating dental patients. Usually, if sedation is offered, it is provided by a dentist. The skills and medical judgment I have refined over years of hospital work caring for critically ill children and adults during complex operations should give you confidence that your child will be safe in my hands.

Dr. Paul Weller

At UCSF and UTH, Dr. Weller conducted and published research in root canal instrumentation and the oral effects of smoking. As an active advocate for patient care, he has served on the Board of Directors, various committees, and as President of the San Francisco Dental Society.

Dr. Weller has also dedicated his time to advancing oral public health through elementary school screenings and volunteer clinics for the local community. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Weller is an avid runner and a lifelong proponent for healthy lifestyles.
